This is my Edward Scissorhands costume. This is probably the costume I’m most proud of. I grew up having my mother and Grandmother making my costumes, so I had good influences. I think I only had one store bought costume in my trick or treating years (because we tried for weeks to make a Frankenstein Monster costume and it just wasn’t working, so I used my prisoner pajamas instead). I made a Slipknot mask a year prior to this, which I’m also proud of, but everyone remembers me for my Edward costume.
I used about a billion screenshots from the movie as well as the McFarlane action figure for reference. I tried my hardest to get the proportions for the hands right, and get them as close to scale as I could. The McFarlane action figure I used for references: [link] And a screenshot of good ole Eddy: [link] The hands were obviously the toughest part. The scissor parts were made out of foam core (I wanted to make them out of real blades, but I’m all set with going to jail). I swear I super glued my fingers in them at least five times. Luckily I have skinny fingers to slide into them, too. I painted them silver and gave them an aged look. I also added nuts, bolts, and scissor handles (some of which I had to repaint) and any other attachments that I noticed in my references. As for the rest of the hands, I glued regular black winter gloves inside to attach them to the foam core (that’s how I glued my hand many a time). Around the black gloves, I had looser gardening gloves (which I chopped off the fingers), which I also gave an aged look to. The forearm pieces were made out of leatherette. I painted them to look old and on the ends I wrapped them with belts and other pieces of leather. From the scissor fingers, I attached thin piping to these forearm pieces (not sure what purpose they serve, but as long as they’re in the movie, I’m not arguing). As for my clothes, I wore a black turtleneck underneath my white button down shirt. Around my neck I created a collar made of leatherette. It’s similar to the forearm pieces and has three golden rings as Edward has in the movie. I chopped up some suspenders and put in some safety pins to reattach them. My ‘slippers’ were actually made out of slippers, with big black socks covering them, and some leatherette strips. I made those look old, just as I did with everything else. My wig was a plain, straight, black wig that I teased the hell out of. I put tons of junk in there: glue, spray paint, spray glue…god knows what. I also dyed my hair jet black so I had no red hairs coming out from under my wig. (Not to mention it didn’t wash out or grow out for like two months.) My makeup was fun to do. I had that pale, yet slightly purple skin tone. I put rings under my eyes and on my cheekbones as well. I simulated scars using white eyeliner and purple eyeliner. This costume took me a while to create, but was well worth it. On Halloween, everyone loved it, except it was a pain trying to eat and open doors. People had to go into my pockets when I wanted some gum or when my cell phone rang. It was ridiculous, but I wouldn’t trade that night for anything. I’ve been wanting to make the entire black costume as well, but when I get a chance to, another costume idea pops into my head. |

Ludo - "How do you get them into the bucket?"
Gogg - "We could cut them up...I guess..."
Ludo - "Oh. Yeah, we could do that. It'd have to be into little pieces. Like toe sized pieces. You ready for that much work?"
Gogg - "Fuck it. Lets get a barrel."
Yeah, I wish I had won too, but apparently furries and seamstresses are a lot more creative when it comes to Halloween costumes...
